Fleet Cottage - An 18th Century Cottage in the Heart of Derbyshire

In 2007, Fleet Cottage was awarded a VisitBritain Quality in Tourism rating of Four Stars!

This newly renovated 18th Century Grade II Listed cottage, was formerly a beer house and staging inn and later a nailmakers shop.

Beamed throughout with stone flagged floor. Lovely views and many walks from the door.

INTRODUCTION

Our self-catering cottage consists of an open plan ground floor and stairs to a second floor. We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement but please do not hesitate to call should you have any further queries.


PRE ARRIVAL

Bookings/enquiries can be taken via email, or phone.

The town is a 10 minute walk away but has some steep inclines.

There is a bus and train station in town (approx 0.5miles away).

Somerfield supermarket will deliver groceries if you spend over £25.00.


ARRIVAL AND CAR PARKING

There is street parking or you can park in the drive accessed by heavy gates, please note the drive consists of gravel on a slight gradient that does not suit all vehicles.

The property has two steps to the one entrance.


MAIN ENTRANCE

Two steps lead you to the main entrance. The bottom step measures 23cm height x 112cm width and the top step 15cm height x 91.5cm width. The width of the front door is 76cm.

The basic width of the door leads you into the zoned areas of the open plan ground floor.


SELF-CATERING KITCHEN AREA

The clear floor space in the kitchen area is approximately 170cm x 220cm.

The kitchen consists of base units at the normal height level 91.5cm incorporating an under worktop fridge with small icebox and a washing machine. The stainless steel built in oven once again housed in the base units incorporates a grill with a gas 4-ring hob. Above the oven and hob is an extractor fan.

There are 3 wall units that house most of the crockery i.e. crockery and glasses.

The kitchen is well and evenly lit.


LOUNGE/DINING AREA

The lounge and dining area is approximately 460 x 305.

The dining area houses a square table legged on each corner with a 2-seater bench on the left side and 2 chairs on the right. 2 Further folding chairs are stacked behind the bench.

The lounge area houses 2 2-seater settee’s and a single chair with a lamp table and coffee table plus a television unit with TV and DVD and radio player. The room layout once again can be viewed on the website.

As space is limited in the lounge area it should be noted that if the bed settee was required furniture would need to be moved to allow for the bed to be opened.

The floors in all the downstairs areas are stone flagstones with a rug in front of the hearth.

There is a wood-burning log stove in a recessed fireplace.


STAIRS

The stairs to the top floor lead from the kitchen area. There are 4 steps kited from the bottom each step measuring an approximate height of 20cm and clearing 79cm in width. There are 13 steps altogether with a handrail 86cm height on the left for the bottom 4 steps and a handrail on the right for the further 9. At the top of the stairs is a small landing measuring 166 x 124cm with 3 doors off to the shower room and 2 bedrooms.


DOUBLE BEDROOM

The double bedroom has a 4ft 6”double bed, height 55cm.

Non-feather duvet and pillows are provided.

Bedding is provided in easy care cotton.

The room measures 310 x 300 and the largest transfer space available is as you enter the room on the left of the bed and is 38cm.

There is no room to move the bed if more space is required.

The largest free space area clear of furniture is 38cm.

The door width is 67.5cm.

There is an inbuilt double wardrobe with internal drawers and shelves and clothes rail.

The floor is sealed stripped pine boards with rugs


TWIN ROOM

Door width 26.5.

The twin room has 2, 3ft beds height 46cm.

Non-feather duvet and pillows are provided.

Bedding is provided in easy care cotton.

The room measures 315 x 315 and the largest free space available is in the centre of the 2 beds and is 49cm.

In between the beds are a 3 drawer chest H76cm x W28cm and a rug.

It would be difficult to rearrange the furniture to make further space.

There is an inbuilt wardrobe with additional inbuilt drawers and a large cupboard with deep shelves big enough to house suitcases.

The floor is sealed stripped pine boards.


SHOWER ROOM

The shower room measures 124 x 214.

The shower cubicle tray measures.

The sink pedestal is behind the door and the toilet is a non-disabled.

Above the sink is a shelf plus a mirror and shaving point.

There is shelving housing storage baskets for toiletries, etc.

There is no free floor space as this room is small but it is more than adequate and provides all you need.

Floor is sealed stripped pine boards with bath rug.


GROUNDS AND GARDENS

Directly behind the gates and in front of the cottage is a large gravelled area for parking if required though visitors usually prefer to park on the roadside as the drive has a gradient and the gates are heavy especially in high winds. Please note the gravel would impede the moving of a wheelchair or disabled bike.

There is a patio area with a patio set and a well tended raised flowerbed with beautiful views across the Chevin

There is a bin provided for refuge and 2 bins provided for recycling and these will be emptied for you.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

There is a useful information folder inside the cottage.

There is good mobile phone reception.

If the fire alarm were raised vacation from the cottage would be from the one main door and out onto the patio.

The cottage is no smoking.

Pets and service dogs are welcome subject to booking conditions.
